George the Puppy!

I love showing the girls how to craft and sew! Due to rain, our morning plans were canceled so Devon asked to make George the Puppy, from Jennifer Paganelli's new book, Girl's World.

First, she picked out fabric.  She liked the ribbed knit I had in pink and matched it up with some Sis Boom. We traced and cut out the pattern:

Next, we pinned the pattern down and cut out the ears and body! She was very careful and  was able to cut around the ears with really sharp sewing scissors! I did the body.

Next we ironed them and pinned and stitched the ears and body. I couldn't take pics of the actual sewing process since I was helping her with "steering" the sewing machine!
She turned the stitched up puppy right side out all by herself and then ironed him!

Next up was stuffing him. I showed her the trick of using the eraser end of a pencil to get the stuffing in small spots.

I whip-stitched the opening (Devon helped for a few stitches) and he was complete! One George the Puppy, made by Devon!!!! (and a little help from mom!)

We are off to make one for Brooklyn now! These are great fun projects for the kids! Better than build-a-bear! Course, now the puppy's will need clothes, huh???????

Hope you are enjoying the weekend!

God Bless,
Cathy

Adding in the newest George the Puppy! Get well Brooklyn!

Slice Fabrique

Hello All!
Although I have an embroidery machine that I LOVE, I couldn't help but become interested in the Slice Fabrique, which is a new cutting machine that can cut fabric!! Here is the website  and here is a cool utube video.  I read several reviews and really couldn't resist. So about a week later this arrived:

So, I took it out and charged it up and tried it out. I did read the directions and it is very simple to use. I picked an easy flower applique and some scrap fabric to test it out on.
See? It is so easy and fast! I tried it again with a slightly different size....

And there you go..three cute appliques in about 2 minutes! I can see that I am going to get a lot of use out of this thing!

They are releasing 5 new design cards any time now! Check these out! I can't wait to add to my collection! So the story continues because my daughter asked me to help her with a "team shirt" for school for Friday. She was going to take a Sharpie marker on a blank tee and write on it. I suggested we try out the new Slice instead. She agreed! Yaaaa!

We reused an old tee shirt since she is only going to wear it once. We decided to cover the old applique (see above) with white fabric and "7R Rocks" (her school team). Then we picked out some pretty stripped fabric, ironed on wonder under and put it on the hands-free cutting board. I love the magnetic hands-free board. A definite must buy for this system!

So here it is cutting out the first number!

You can select from size 3" up to 5" in half inch increments...soooooo awesome! We picked 4" for the back of the shirt and 3" for the front!

Once you cut out your letters/numbers, you lift the fabric and use a little spatula to peel off the letter from the board. Quick and easy!

We arranged the letters on the white fabric after removing the backing and ironed everything on the shirt.

Since she is just wearing this once, I didn't sew around anything. If you are going to wash and wear this, then you should stitch around the letters as you would for an applique. You can use a satin stitch or applique/blanket stitch. Here is an example of an applique stitch I tried with my machine:
So here is our final project...

The machine really made this quick and easy. I can tell you I would NOT have appliqued all of those letters using my embroidery machine or attempted to cut them out by hand....for her just to wear for a few hours to school. I am really happy to be able to incorporate appliques quickly and easily onto projects.

I'd love to hear new ideas and uses for the Slice Fabrique! Let me know if you have some!

What will be my next Girl's World Project???

We are all enjoying our copy of Girls World by Jennifer Paganelli! What a beautiful, inspiring book!  I just love looking at all of the gorgeous photos and fabric!!! Ohhh la la!! I know I am going to make many more projects from the book this summer but I (we) put my toe in the water with these two so far.
Today's story begins with cutting blocks and deciding how to arrange the fabric on the Memory board:

This was a gift for a friend's daughter whose favorite colors were purple and pink!

I kept rearranging and then once decided, sewed and quilted the top. I added the ribbon and it was done....super fun and easy to do:

And I am not the only one making these. After my 13 yr old saw this, she decided to get in on the action and made this board. I helped with the ribbon but she cut and sewed all of the blocks:

It's now happily hanging in her room! Yaa!

When the time came to decide on gifts for my youngest two to give to their teachers, well, what better way to say thank you than a memory board?!!!! So the girls helped me pick out fabric and ribbon and off I went. For these I added a little batting and a ribbon to hang it all from. I also picked up a cute "teacher" notebook and printed out a few pictures of the girls with their teachers. Soooo cute... or should I say Sew Cute?! These are so fun to make!

So here are the finished boards:

The girl's can't wait to bring these into the teachers next week! Yaaaaa only a few days left of the school year until summer!

Speaking of summer, another cute Girl's World project was a special request of Devon. She asked me to make a Tellulah Dress with some zebra fabric I had sitting around. I am going to make a bunch more of these with some pretty Sis Boom fabric...great for summer!!! This was also an easy dress...great for a beginner too! I made it in one afternnoon! I traced the pattern onto paper and cut it out. Pinned to the fabric and cut it out. The assembly process was quick and whalaa...done!

I also have my eye on a few other projects in this fabulous book to try very soon! The George the Puppy is a must-do and the floral lampshade. Can't get by without making the Annabel Apron for our summer cooking camp and the list goes on. Needless to say, I am going to get my money's worth on this pretty book!

You can pick up your own SIGNED copy of Girl's World too...click here! I'd love to see what you make!!!

I will leave you with  a pretty Sis Boom apron I recieved as a gift...I am so excited about it!

Have a great weekend!

Cathy
