Christmas Crafting!

Hello All!

Wishing you all much peace and happiness (read:  try not to drive yourself crazy getting ready for Christmas!!!) as we prepare for the Christmas season! I have been a little busy myself and haven't had much of a chance to sew during the week! I have a few sewing projects to complete still but I was able to finish these fun gifts for a few of my sewing friends! They are dress form pin cushions! I saw the idea from Kim and Kris of DIY Dish and latched onto it! Of course I LOVE Jennifer Paganelli's wonderful  SisBoom fabrics and so I knew I needed to "SisBoom" my pin cushions!!!! (that's a verb right???)

So I gathered my materials and got busy! As you can see, I actually gathered materials for several projects!!!

 I watched the "How To" video from my iPad and the assembly line began! They were fun to make! Here I am on the final step of attaching the dress form to the candle stick!

And here they all are!!!!

My wonderful hubby helped me pack everything up and ship it out!!! Yaaaa!

I am putting the binding on my mom's Christmas Quilt and tomorrow I am starting some dresses for the girls.....so I will be back with lots more soon!!!! Carry on! Keep Christ in Christmas and don't forget the reason for the season!!!!

Ruffles and Gathers!

Hello All!

How are you? I have been sewing off and on throughout these November weekends and actually finished two more dresses for our upcoming Disney trip. I officially stopped sewing however for Disney until all of my Christmas projects are done and mailed out! 

So I made a dress for both girls with  a few ruffles which I did by hand. I do have a ruffler that I usually use, but decided to do these by hand! I used the same pattern, Simply Sweet by the Scientific Seamstress. For the ruffles, I simply doubled the width (of the back skirt) for the ruffle strips, folded and gathered three rows of ruffles. I pinned them on upside down and stitched. Then flipped them down, pressed them and topstitched. Then I assembled the front and back skirts at the sides as usual. Easy but more time consuming than usual.

So this is Brooklyn's Finding Nemo dress. Its for Epcot. If you have ever taken the clamshell ride, they're always saying "Where's Nemo?" so the bodice plays off of this theme. Around the bottom are Marlin and his friends looking for Nemo ( or fish are friends not food!). If you turn to the back, it seems that Crush has found Nemo.....hey dude!

Next I made a dress for Devon. She wanted one with Tinkerbell and all of her fairy friends. So I found a bunch of different appliques and sayings and arranged them on the front of the dress. Again, I put lots of ruffles around the back for her with some cute purple Tink fabric! I took these pics after work and it was already dark!

 The  bodice says I Believe with Tink and Peter Pan...

 And this says All You Need Is Faith, Trust and a little bit of Pixie Dust.

 Here is the back with all of the ruffles!

 I added Tinkerbell Bottlecap "buttons"....they're not really buttons but more for detail. :)

And there you go! I have managed to make some outfits for Thanksgiving. But I will show those in my next update! Have a great week! Its going to be raining for a few days! We need it!

Dumbo Circus!

Hello Everyone!

Checking in from sunny (and snowless) Cape May! I hope all my friends north of me are safe and warm this morning!!!  It's a bright morning...very chilly however...but the kids are out riding bikes and scooters! I just finished an impromptu dress for  Brooklyn to wear to the Magic Kingdom. You may know that I am VERY excited about the Fantasyland Expansion in Disney. Well, apparently, Dumbo is being moved and reopened in the new area during our next trip!!!! Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the scheduled reopen actually happens according to plan. In any case, this dress celebrates the new Dumbo area featuring circus tents and two Dumbo attractions! I would like to thank my DIS-friend, Alicia, for finding and sending me this fabric! I paired it with some dot fabric I had to complete the colorful circus theme! Of course, the pattern is  from the Scientific Seamstress..... click here!

Sister dress complete!

Hello Everyone!

I sure hope it is as nice where you are as it is here this weekend! We enjoyed a little camping and while I love it...it creates so much laundry! So today, we got home, started the laundry, graded papers, watched the Eagles game and I finished up Brooklyn's coordinating Hollywood Studios dress. Her dress has purple everywhere where Devon's was pink!!

The lighting was so bright outside, I couldn't tell if the pics would come out better in it or the shade....so I took some in both!!!

Gotta love the original Mickey Mouse!!! Have you ever seen this cartoon? So I am off to decide what to make next! I'll keep you posted on the progress....thanks for looking!!

By the way, all of these Disney outfits will probably be for sale after our trip and donations will go to Power of 10 for Give Kids the World. I will let you know when and where and how to do this when the time comes!
